About Coach Jai

Coach Jai, known off the course as James Ideson, is a PGA of Canada professional and Senior Coach at Zone Golf Academy whose love for golf runs as deep as his credentials. A former touring pro, Eddie Hogam Team Member and a NCAA Division 2 winner, Coach Jai brings decades of lived competitive experience to every lesson he gives.

Inspired by the grace of Fred Couples and the grit of Bobby Jones, he now channels everything he learned on the world’s greatest courses into one purpose: helping golfers of all levels find their swing, their confidence, and their own joy in this remarkable game.

Besides myself, Jai was the best practicer I have ever taught in 45 years. It would be freezing pouring rain and Jai would be out there chipping.

1. Roots of a Champion

Point Grey Golf Club was where it all began for Coach Jai. He became Junior Club Champion three consecutive years from 1994 to 1996, then claimed the Men’s Club Championship in 1997. Those formative years didn’t just shape his game, they gave him a deep appreciation for the community, the camaraderie, and the culture that make golf so much more than just a sport.

2. From the Junior Hogan Team to the Pro Circuit

Coach Jai went on to represent the prestigious Junior Hogan Team, finishing with a perfect 8-0 match play record on some of the most iconic courses in the world, including Pebble Beach, Spyglass Hill, and Spanish Bay. He then took his talents to Christian Brothers University in Memphis, Tennessee, earning 8 NCAA wins before stepping onto the Touring Mini-Pro circuit, where he competed on the Hooters Tour and recorded a personal best score of 61, twice.

3. A Record That Speaks for Itself

Over the course of his competitive career, Coach Jai has recorded 16 hole-in-ones, one double eagle, and a competitive low of 64. He continues to play in Pro-Am events, keeping his game sharp and his passion for competition very much alive. As a credentialed PGA of Canada member, he brings both real-world experience and the highest standard of professional coaching to every student he works with.

Coach Jai believes that every golfer, from the new player chasing their first par to the competitive player hunting a personal best, deserves the same quality of attention, patience, and genuine enthusiasm.
